How to get there

What's Liberty? is a playwriting journey that invites participants to explore and reflect on the meaning of "liberty" as our nation marks its 250th anniversary. Each playwright will create an original ten-minute play inspired by their own perspective on this theme. Spanning a variety of genres, the plays will reflect the diverse cultures and voices that make up the Florida region. Throughout the process, participants will develop their work through guided discussions, structured feedback, and one-on-one mentoring. The completed plays will culminate in a public staged reading at the Sandrell Rivers Theater, performed by actors from our community.

This project is presented in partnership with Fantasy Theatre Factory at the Sandrell Rivers Theater and it is made possible with support from The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation at The Miami Foundation and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor, and Board of County Commissioners.
